Description
Summary:This article tackles the issue of the conflicts bound to the difficult articulation between State power and customary laws in Large Kasaï. In spite of its enormous natural potentiality, this space located at the centre of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced for nearly sixty years a succession of conflicts and a territorial restructuring, as a consequence of the fragility and instability of this huge State of Central Africa. The stakes of power control by various actors, the crisis and conflicts related to the exploitation of the natural resources, particularly diamond, as well as the mechanisms of land appropriation are analysed by highlighting the elements of the socio-economic context such as significant movements of population, a rapid urbanization, an enclosing and insulation caused by the deterioration of surface transports and a difficult access to basic services. All this results in a widespread dilapidated state of the infrastructures, public facilities and the destruction of natural diversity plunging the population in a feeling of neglect and frustration.
