| Summary: | Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) was established in the acid extract of a mature embryo of Juglans cordiformis. Biogenic monoamine from the extract was separated on the ion exchanger Amber lite CG-50 and detected by chromatographic, spectrophotometric, and spectrofluorimetric methods. Serotonin was detected in a quantity of 170 µg g-1 fresh weight. The localization of serotonin was de tected in the embryo by a histochemical reaction with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in HCl, or with ninhydrin in acetic acid.
