However, there is limited research on the experiences of Chinese lung cancer survivors. This study aimed to examine the post-diagnosis experiences of these survivors, using their blog entries as the primary data source. Qualitative content analysis was adopted to investigate the post-diagnosis experiences of Chinese lung cancer survivors. Data were collected from the public media site Xiaohongshu and involved a total of 417 blog entries posted by 15 lung cancer survivors. Each sentence in the eligible blog entries was determined as a unit of analysis and divided into meaning units, which were then coded and analyzed iteratively to generate subthemes and themes. The content analysis yielded five themes: (1) reasons for reluctance to accept their diagnosis; (2) treatment and its side effects; (3) emotional responses to their illness; (4) emotional support; (5) lung cancer disease management. This study has implications for healthcare professionals, highlighting the need for patient-centered care and emotional support for lung cancer survivors. Additionally, it also provides qualitative evidence that blogs are an accessible and valuable tool for studying the perspectives and experiences of lung cancer survivors. |
