| Summary: | The article examines the key role of customs security in ensuring the economic security of the state. Its impact on the resilience of the national economy to internal and external threats, financial stability, the development of foreign economic activities, and the overall maintenance of national security is analyzed. The authors explore the functions of customs authorities as the main agents of customs security implementation, particularly their responsibilities in control, regulation of foreign trade processes, administration of customs duties, combating smuggling, and ensuring the fulfillment of the state’s customs interests. Special attention is paid to the importance of customs security during martial law, when the operations of customs authorities become critically important for maintaining economic and social stability. The results of the activities of Ukraine’s customs services in 2022–2023 are highlighted, including measures to combat violations of customs legislation, detection of smuggling of weapons, narcotics, and other hazardous goods, as well as the administration of customs payments, which ensured significant budget revenues despite the challenging wartime conditions. The article emphasizes that customs security impacts the realization of national interests, ensures transparency in foreign economic activities, promotes the protection of the domestic market, and creates a favorable environment for business development. It is highlighted that achieving a high level of customs security requires continuous improvement of the customs authorities’ operations. In particular, the introduction of modern information technologies, enhancement of automated risk management systems, strengthening of anti-corruption measures, and the development of international cooperation are seen as promising directions. Thus, the authors argue that customs security is an integral component of national security, and its effective provision contributes to maintaining economic stability, enhancing competitiveness in the global market, and ensuring citizens’ well-being. |
