| description | Introduction: Septal deviation is a frequently found structural deformity causing nasal obstruction, headache, postnasal drip and snoring etc. With the advent of endoscopes, conventional headlight surgeries have been largely replaced. Endoscopic septoplasty is a minimally invasive targeted approach for septal correction.
Materials and methods: A retrospective study was carried out of all the cases who underwent septoplasty at SVIMS-SPMCW, Tirupati. The case files of all these patients were reviewed for indications, findings and complications.
Results: Septoplasty with endoscopic sinus surgery is the commonest procedure performed for deviated nasal septum (DNS) with chronic rhinosinusitis and sinonasal polyposis followed by septoplasty alone for symptomatic DNS, septoplasty with turbinate reduction for DNS with turbinate hypertrophy, septoplasty with endo DCR (Dacryocystorhinostomy) for DNS with chronic dacryocystitis and revision septoplasty for persistent deviation.Overall complication rate is around 1.2% which includes 1 case of each bleeding, synaechae and septal perforation.
Conclusion: Endoscopic septoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery that can be performed either alone or as a concurrent procedure along with other nasal surgeries with good postoperative outcomes.
