description This article aims to analyze the handwritten letters of the Napoleonic soldier-prisoners in Cabrera, addressed to the representative of the Superior Junta of Observation and Defense of Majorca, Don Antonio Desbrull. During their stay on the Balearic Island, from 1809 to 1814, after the defeat of Baylen (July 22, 1808) and Cádiz’s prison ships, the French troops suffered a harsh captivity where medication, water, food, clothing and shelter were lacking. Mortality was very high. They had only one way to alleviate their condition: writing. We will study their desperate requests and the replies received.
