Description
Summary:Hypercholesterolemia (HCH) and vascular inflammation are the main therapeutic targets in atherosclerosis. The paper discusses the results of the studies which have focussed on the effects of a new class of physiologically active substances (polyprenols and β-sitosterols) on lipid profile and pro-inflammatory cytokines in HCH patients with low to moderate cardiovascular risk. Polyprenol phosphates and phytosterols could help to achieve significant changes in lipid profile and normalisation of immunologic parameters.
