| description | Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms that significantly impact quality of life. Effective symptom management requires continuous monitoring and timely interventions, which traditional clinical assessments often fail to provide. Wearable devices have emerged as promising solutions, offering real-time, objective data collection and personalized interventions. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate the efficacy of wearable devices in monitoring and treating PD symptoms. A comprehensive search of PubMed, ScienceDirect, IEEE, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Studies assessing wearable devices for PD symptom tracking or therapeutic intervention were included. The meta-analysis quantified the accuracy of symptom detection and the effectiveness of wearable-assisted interventions in improving clinical outcomes. Results indicate that wearable devices demonstrate high sensitivity and specificity in tracking motor fluctuations, gait abnormalities, and tremors. Wearable-based interventions, such as cueing and feedback mechanisms, have shown promise in enhancing motor control, reducing bradykinesia, and improving medication adherence. However, challenges such as device adherence, user-friendliness, and data integration into clinical workflows remain barriers to widespread adoption. Wearable technology represents a valuable tool for enhancing PD management through continuous monitoring and personalized interventions. While evidence supports wearables’ potential to improve outcomes, further research is needed to validate long-term efficacy, optimize usability, and assess cost-effectiveness to ensure broader clinical adoption. |
