Summary:Caring for a relative with a psychiatric illness adds the burden of stress, both for the patient and the caregivers. The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on stress and coping strategies among primary care givers of patients with psychotic disorders. Pre experimental design was used and sample of 40 primary care givers were selected using purposive sampling technique. Level of stress and coping strategies were assessed and structured teaching programme was given. Post-test was done after one week. Results shown that mean pre-test and mean post-test stress score was 25.65 and 13.8 respectively and mean pre-test and post-test coping score was 30.8 and 47.48 respectively which was highly significant at 0.001 level. Hence structured teaching programme was effective in reducing stress and improving coping strategies of primary caregivers.
