Description
Summary:People generally assume that start-ups are characterised by flat reporting lines and a sense of freedom. Their founders and employees seem to view such organisations as alternatives to the more integrated model represented by large companies, where the desire for clear hierarchical lines and control leaves little room for autonomy, initiative and work satisfaction. The present contribution seeks to analyse to what extent the model they embody satisfies the aspirations of workers (volunteers or employees) in a way that furthers their sense of commitment despite pay and working conditions that are frequently sub-optimal.
