Description
Summary:The cocoa bean has a high nutritional value that is positioning it in international markets after sugar and sugarcane. In Colombia, cocoa is very important for its economy, being the raw material for sweets and beverages [1]. The research was conducted in the area of influence of the Sogamoso hydroelectric plant, consisting of the municipalities of Betulia and Zapatoca, in the department of Santander, Colombia. Due to the low cocoa production in this region, the need arose to conduct this research to support decision-making regarding approaches and initiatives that contribute to improving cocoa crops and production in this sector. The population consisted of 159 farm owners. To select the sample, a stratified probability sampling was applied, where 52% of farms were classified as large (>5 ha) and 48% as small (<5 ha). Data collection was conducted through a survey with open and closed questions. Descriptive and multivariate statistical methods were applied to analyze the data. Descriptive and multivariate statistical methods were used to describe relevant aspects, while multivariate methods such as classification analysis (CA) and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) were used to characterize the farms. Finally, the results of the survey were shared with cocoa producers, and SWOT matrices were constructed in a coordinated manner. These are necessary for developing a plan with strategic guidelines for improving the competitiveness of cocoa producers, summarized in four aspects: productive, social, environmental/climate change adaptation, and agroindustrial.
