Description
Summary:During the Nazi occupation of Poland in the years 1939–1945 German invaders exterminated inhabitants of villages supporting partisans. On 14 and 15 of August 1944, German gendarmerie and police carried out a repression operation in the village of Podsuliszka in the county of Radom. During that operation they shot a dozen or so of young men in the forest and burned several farms. The exact number of the people killed is not known as the surviving documents are not conclusive in this respect. After the war, in the atmosphere of retaliation for the atrocities suffered, the village inhabitants accused their neighbours Bronisław Kopania and his father Szymon of collaboration in the crime. They were arrested and sentenced to death. The death penalty was later converted to imprisonment. None of the German gendarmes were punished for the slaughter.
