Description
Summary:Abstract There are 210 bookbindings and several parts of bookbindings separated from their original text block. They are set apart from the rest of the fond (membra disiecta) in the Franciscan monastery library in Ljubljana. No exact provinence or datation of these bookbindings is known, although they presumably originate in period between 17th and 19th century. A codicological census (of structure and decoration) and a comparative analysis of provinence and datation on the 24 decorative bookbindings from the membra disiecta group was undertaken. Each bookbinding got an illustrated document either taken in a form of a photography or in a pencil rubbing. I presented the main characteristics of decoration and chronological overview of the 24 items of membra disiecta bookbindings.
