Description
Summary:This article presents the steps that contributed to build a “collaborative space” between researchers and professionals involved in the youth assistance sector in Belgium. The research project described in this article was funded by the professionals of this sector and was conducted by a research center, described by them as “scientists” (meaning from the “academic sphere”). The article highlights the methodological and epistemological steps (i.e. the tools) that allow the above professionals to get involved in the research approach. Simultaneously, the article highlights the “safeguards” that we constructed to ensure the scientific features of that research. As a result of this experience, the article suggests to think about the conditions that allow building “collaborative spaces” between researchers and professionals working on the same research issue. The research object is related with the “well-being” of students at school (the level after the primary school and before higher education). At first, the research goal set by the sponsor was to build a “best practice manual” to ensure the “well-being” at school. We then highlight how the “collaborative space” allows us to refocus the initial goal and at the same time produces effects on the social environment. From this point of view, we also approach the issue of limits in the “collaborative space” and the way we tried to go beyond the constraints of this particular space.
