Summary:The paper analysis the new and old challenges of the migration phenomenon in the Member States and their socio-economic impact. The authors are focused on the implications of the waves of Ukrainian refugees caused by the war in Ukraine and on EU member states’ response to the crisis. A special attention is dedicated to Romania as a destination country for Ukrainian refugees. It is analysed the process of integration of refugees from Ukraine in Romania. From the quantitative analysis of the statistical data and the qualitative research of the migration policies from EU and Romania, a series of vulnerabilities are highlighted, but also possible opportunities for the Romanian labor market, which are summarized based on the SWOT analysis.
