Summary:Children attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a classic case in the field of medicalization research, highlighting the expansion of medicine into the realm of daily life. In the 1990s, along with the globalization of medicalization, ADHD was introduced into China and underwent localized adaptation and development. Nowadays, ADHD has become a common mental disorder among Chinese children. This study approaches the topic from the perspective of medicalization, traced the historical development and presentation of ADHD in the West. It also focuses on its introduction, localization, and development in China, with particular attention paid to the development of the local alternative treatment market which is different from the Western pharmaceutical industry, aiming to provide a case analysis for understanding the globalization of medicalization.
