Description
Summary:Staging in the Alps: “Ethnographic Exhibitions” in Tyrol in the First Half of the 20th Century This bachelor’s thesis examines the phenomenon of “ethnographic exhibitions” in Tyrol from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. By analyzing 29 newspaper articles from the Tyrolean press, the study investigates the organization, commercialization, and societal impacts of these events. Using qualitative content analysis, it addresses cultural commodification, scientific discourse, exoticization, and the political context. The analysis highlights how these exhibitions reflected European stereotypes of “otherness” while contributing to the entertainment industry and reinforcing colonial narratives.
