description This article examines the negotiations over the future of an area dominated by a nuclear plant. The future of the area is also replayed by the plan to extend the plant as part of the nuclear storage pool project, which stabilises the area's industrial identity at the expense of other projections made by its stakeholders. We are examining the reconciliation and friction between the projections for the area made by a variety of players (public institutions, mayors, town planners, local residents, environmental associations, experts); these projections are embodied in concrete projects and they fit more or less with the existing plant as well as with the project of extension. The analysis is divided into three parts: the first explores the integration of the nuclear plant into the local area, showing how it has gradually become embedded in its various dimensions (social, economic, material and political). The second part shows that regional projects with an alternative vision of the nuclear region are emerging, but are having to deal with the plant as part of the administrative reorganisation of the region. Finally, the third section looks at how these projects can coexist in a context of growing climate uncertainty.
