description This study examined the effectiveness of Mentalization-Based Group Therapy (MBT-G) in the treatment of object relations and emotional regulation challenges in individuals diagnosed with dependent personality syndrome. Employing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group and one-month follow-up, the research targeted individuals aged 18 to 40 residing in Tehran. In 2022, thirty-two participants with dependent personality syndrome were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups, each consisting of sixteen participants. The selection process involved purposive sampling. Based on the Bateman and Fonagy treatment protocol, the experimental group underwent 20 sessions of 75-minute MBT-G. Data were gathered using the Bell Object Relations and Reality Testing Inventory (BORRTI), the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), and the Dependent Personality Inventory-Revised (DPI-R). Repeated measures ANOVA was conducted using SPSS 26. The experimental group exhibited substantial enhancements in object relations, emotion regulation, and dependent personality syndrome during both the posttest and follow-up phases (p<0.05). According to these findings, MBT-G is an effective intervention for improving psychological functioning in individuals with dependent personality syndrome, a condition that is classified under Cluster C personality disorders. Given MBT’s traditional focus on cluster B personality disorders, its application to other personality disorder clusters warrants further exploration.
