Description
Summary:This article is based on data produced as part of a project carried out in the Mambéré-Kadéï (Western Central African Republic), between 2019 and 2023. This project aimed, among other goals, to support the return of herders, who had fled the region during the peak of violence in 2013. We are studying informal processes of consultation between farmers and herders, which make these returns possible, and help to recreate links between the two communities. Through these local, flexible and adaptable arrangements, herders manage to regain their place in rural areas, despite major obstacles: recomposition of the rural areas following the war, persistent insecurity linked to armed groups, and the uncertainties linked to the return of the State to this region.
