| Summary: | Vision is responsible for 80 -90% of what the child learns during first 6 years of life and promotes growth and development. Specific expertise and methodology is required to evaluate and manage children with low vision. Pediatric low vision care is no longer limited to magnifiers, large print books or white cane. Through this review on low vision in pediatric population, early intervention, functional vision, use of available diagnostic and types of low vision devices are highlighted. A multidisciplinary, holistic approach and coordinated effort will make children with low vision maximize the residual vision for educational, recreational, social, developmental and quality of life. |
