description In this article, the numerical simulations and experimental investigations on the evolution of soliton rain in Tm-doped fiber laser were carried out, based on the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) technique. By carefully adjusting the polarization controller (PC) in the cavity, the soliton rain phenomenon was observed, in which the pulse train length of a drifting solitons was about 0.36 μs, 0.77 μs, and 0.92 μs, respectively. In order to further analyze the influence of PC on the formation of soliton rain, the corresponding numerical analysis was performed. The numerical simulation was in consistent with the experimental results. Our present research work was very meaningful to further investigate the nonlinear dynamics mechanisms of ultrafast fiber laser.
