| Summary: | Fiber-reinforced posts have gained widespread use in restorative dentistry owing to their superior biomechanical properties and improved esthetics compared to metallic posts. However, a major drawback associated with their use is the difficulty of removal should a nonsurgical root canal retreatment become indicated. The presented case reports propose an innovative and predictable technique for fiber post removal using ultrasonic vibration at low power. The first case involved a 49-year-old female of good health who presented with a bad odor and difficulty cleaning between her maxillary anterior teeth. The case was diagnosed as previously treated with symptomatic apical periodontitis. The second case involved a 28-year-old female in good health who presented with pain when biting on the lower right side of the jaw. The case was diagnosed as previously treated with symptomatic apical periodontitis. The third case involved a healthy 31-year-old female, referred by a prothodontist to remove a broken fiber post from her maxillary anterior tooth. The case was diagnosed as previously treated with normal apical tissues. The described technique was able to remove fiber posts safely and efficiently without iatrogenic errors. Hence, dental practitioners should possess the required level of knowledge and technical skills that enable them to use the therapeutic tools available at their disposal to enhance the quality of care rendered to their patients. |
