Description
Summary:In order to support pupils’ learning processes, foreign language teaching should offer a variety of learning arrangements which comply with their individual needs and address different dimensions of heterogeneity. This article focuses on linguistic heterogeneity and illustrates how learning can be individualised and differentiated using a variety of languages as a resource by means of sprachenvernetzendes Lernen. This didactic concept initiates learners to make use of linguistic synergies in order to foster the language learning process. In a first step it is shown how sprachenvernetzendes Lernen corresponds with basic principles of individualisation and differentiation, namely: the application of a variety of materials, methods and social classroom arrangements as well as a holistic approach to learning. This is illustrated by examples of cross-linguistic teaching materials for the EFL classroom. Secondly, this paper reports experience which could be gained by using these materials in teaching practice with regard to individualisation, differentiation and the integration of linguistic heterogeneity.
