Description
Summary:This paper aims to highlight the role of nominal forms of address in managing the interpersonal relationship in an epistolary interaction. It will therefore be necessary to analyse the enunciative particularity of the epistolary novel which is presented as a series of letters exchanged between several correspondents. Indeed, each of the letter-writer tries to negotiate place relationships and overcoming distance constraints. Accordingly, this paper presents the three dimensions of interpersonal relationships according to Kerbrat-Orecchioni (2010) (horizontal, vertical, and conflict/consensus). Adopting a pragmatic - enunciative and interactive approach to discourse analysis enables us to study of the functionality of these relations in Les Lettres Persanes by Montesquieu.
