Influence of Rainfall on Stability of Complex Accumulated Bodies on Bank Slopes under Condition of Reservoir Water Level Drop

description Rainfall and reservoir water level drop are the dominant factors affecting the bank slope stability of reservoirs. There is a lack of research on the disaster-forming process of complex accumulated bodies on bank slopes under the combined effect of rainfall and water level drop. In the study, based on the theory of unsaturated seepage and unsaturated soil shear strength, an accumulated body on bank slopes of reservoirs was studied, and numerical simulation methods were used to investigate the combined effect of strong rainfall and reservoir water level drop on the stability of the complex accumulated bodies on bank slopes. The results show that the rainfall types affecting the stability of accumulated bodies on bank slopes are as follows: average type > forward-peak type > backward-peak type > central-peak type. The combined effect of rainfall (≤ 30 mm/d) and reservoir water level drop (≤ 1.0 m/d) does not affect the stability of the bank slope, and there is no landslide risk. On the 23rd and 1st days after the rainfall at intensities of 90 mm/d (heavy rain) and 150 mm/d (rainstorm), respectively, the stability coefficient of the bank slope decreases significantly, and the value is close to or less than the critical value. There is a risk of landslides. Moreover, rainfall is a key factor affecting the stability of the accumulated bodies on bank slopes, and the decrease in water level is a secondary factor accelerating bank slope instability. The research results have certain engineering significance for the development of landslide disaster prevention schemes and reservoir operation measures on the complex accumulated bodies on bank slopes.
