Summary:In this study an improved rice (Xiu shui 11) regeneration system from calli was developed. The regeneration frequency of rice plants was about 35%. To test the regeneration system with transgene, a rice phenylalanine ammonia-lyase gene under the control of CaMV 35S promoter was used to transform calli by use of Agrobacterium mediated transformation method. Plants were regenerated from the transformed calli using the improved regeneration system. The success of gene transfer was confirmed by the PCR method.
