description Background. The problem of bullying is socially significant and is the focus of research interest around the world. The transformation of social institutions, the weakening of traditional mechanisms of social control leads to an increase in the prevalence of deviant, destructive life strategies, normalization and popularization of antisocial behaviors, which causes a violation of socialization processes and contributes to social deformations in the child, adolescent and youth environment. The purpose of the study is to determine the level of prevalence and possible consequences of bullying among the youth of the region. Mate-rials and methods. The following methods of sociological research were used: quantitative method (mass questionnaire survey, 2024, n = 5003); qualitative method of sociological research (in-depth interviews with victims of bullying (n=57), content analysis of social networks (n = 130). Results. The study showed that the problem of bullying is relevant for the studied socio-demographic groups of Penza region, regardless of age and gender. At the same time, in the semantic meaning of the concept of bullying, all groups of respondents have an identical perception of the dominant component of psychological violence against a person, rather than physical. The study showed that bullying among adolescents and youth leads to an increase in the aggressive moods of the entire Russian society, to the criminali-zation of social relations, to a decrease in the social sense of empathy in Russian society, to an increase in extremist sentiments among youth, to behavioral deviations in closed male and female collectives (armies, dormitories, military training courses in universities, in stu-dent groups of secondary vocational schools). Conclusions. The destructive phenomenon of bullying has a minimal manifestation in the student environment of higher educational in-stitutions and is most often expressed in the transition age, which falls during the period of secondary school. At the same time, children and adolescents, finding themselves in the role of a victim, are characterized by “silencing the problem”, which leads to a lack of reli-able information and, accordingly, the lack of understanding of the real situation and assis-tance from relatives and close associates.
