description Background: National Family Health Survey 5 (2019–2021) reported an increased random blood sugar level among 37% of Goans. According to the recent ICMR-INDIAB study, Goa had the highest prevalence of diabetes in India (26.4%). Aim and Objectives: To assess glycemic control and identify the determinants of poor glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) taking treatment at an urban health and training center in St Cruz. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 3 months among 225 T2DM patients taking treatment for at least 5 years. Simple random sampling was used to select the participants. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and HbA1c levels done within the last 3 months were used to determine glycemic control. Results: 52.4% of the participants had poor glycemic control. Determinants such as treatment with insulin (OR = 0.241, P = 0.000), not on hypertensive medication (OR = 0.458, P = 0.023), being married (OR = 1.832, P = 0.037), being employed (OR = 0.298, P = 0.019), and self-monitoring of blood glucose (OR = 0.502, P = 0.018) were found to be significantly associated with poor glycemic control. Conclusion: Over half the study participants had poor glycemic control. Treatment with insulin and being employed were the most common determinants of poor glycemic control.
