Our focus will be particularly on how speed is represented, as well as on the ways in which new inventions – namely photography, the railway and the press – shape the writing of modern times in L’Éducation sentimentale. To enrich our reflection on these forms, we will also examine the variations in tempo in this novel, before turning our attention to a central aspect of its composition: the idleness and reverie of the protagonist.
