description Anemia is a serious global public health concern that primarily affects young children, women in their adolescent years who are menstruating, and women who are pregnant or recently gave birth. Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is the type of anemia that is most common throughout the world. A World Health Organization report states that half of all cases of anemia are caused by IDA. Pandu Roga shares many clinical characteristics with IDA. In Pandu Roga, vitiated Doshas impact tissue metabolism, resulting in Dhatu-Shaithilya (laxity of Dhatu) in all tissues (major body structural components). This is the case study of a 45-year-old female patient with IDA who was treated for 2 months with Virechana Karma (~purgation therapy) and oral Ayurvedic medicines in the line of treatment of Pandu Roga along with dietary supplements rich in iron. She showed a marked improvement in her symptoms, including decreased pallor, improved breathlessness, increased energy, and decreased palpitation in a very short period of time with an increase in hemoglobin level (i.e., from 6.7 g/dl to 11.9 g/dl). Iron profile and complete blood count were taken as objective evaluation criteria. The formulations assist in breaking the Samprapti of Pandu Roga. Improvement was evaluated based on relief in the subjective and objective parameters. This indicates that IDA can be effectively treated with Ayurvedic medicine.
