Description
Summary:Based on the traditional architectural culture and ancestral experiences in choosing the residence place, an assessment experiment was conducted at age-old Cicheng, which is a typical sample of watery region in south side of the Changjiang river. Using the GIS technique and taking some modern knowledge into account, such as geography, landscape science, ecology and psychology, a criteria system for environment quality assessment of human settlements in water net plain area was established. The results of our experiment showed that the land area in different grade of human settlements presented the regularity of approximately normal distribution, and the assessment experimentation had satisfactory reproducibility. Furthermore, it was also close to the layout of existent villages and the wise choice of experts. Therefore, we can draw a conclusion that the assessment criteria system is scientific and feasible and it can be used to find the best human settlements in such areas.
