| Summary: | The article concerns persecutions against the Church in Udmurtiya in 1958-1964. On the basis of archival materials the author describes methods that were used by the attorney of the Council for Russian Orthodox Church’s affairs D.M. Shestakov for eradicating Orthodoxy in the Izhevsk diocese. Financial discredit of the diocese also had a great significance in the state policy. The inhibition of a repair, of decorating legacy churches, development and enlargement of church choruses were besides closing up temples the leverages of the local authorities. Also the author investigates the question of the campaign, which was developed by the authorities against bishop Michael (Chub), and circumstances of his retiring. |
