| Summary: | This articles is a translation of extracts of the introduction and the conclusion of the book HaSociologia Shel HaBaaruth [Sociology of Ignorance], published in Hebrew in 1987 (Tel Aviv, Ministry of Defence Publishing), by two well-known historians of ideas. The book is a transcription of a series of radiophonic conferences. Never translated, this highly innovative work did not influence the wave of studies of ignorance in the 21st century. Amos Funkentein and Adin Steinsaltz propose an innovative approach to the study of an active production of ignorance, a labour-intensive task which is qualitatively different from the production of knowledge. |
