Description
Summary:Intimacy is the subject of interest of many disciplines of social sciences. It is also present in sociological reflection. The sociological view of intimacy focuses on the analysis of the intimate relationship. Intimate relationships analyzed in sociological discourse have a dual character. On the one hand, they are subject to the processes of individualization, deinstitutionalization and de-traditionalization, on the other hand, needs and expectations are subject to the mechanisms constituting the consumer society. On the one hand, intimate relationships are internally conditioned by the expectations of their participants, on the other hand, they are objectified and commodified. What is particularly important is the location of sociological analyses of intimacy in the broader context of selected theoretical models of social life present in sociology (sociology of everyday life and relational sociology). This allows us to look at intimacy not only from the point of view of its content, but also from the point of view of its role in shaping various aspects of social life. An important element of contemporary sociological research on intimacy is an attempt to understand the changes it undergoes in the information society. The process of individualization based on the development of the Internet and information technologies, leading to the spread of network individualism, also changes the face of contemporary intimacy, shaping its network form (e-intimacy).
