| Summary: | Direct payments are an essential element of the Common Agricultural Policy Budget. Pillar I plays an important role for Bulgarian farmers' income stabilization and support. The aim of the study is to analyse the direct payments distribution in Bulgaria and on this base to formulate recommendation regarding future policy development. In the paper Lorenz curve is applied as widely used measure of inequality. The results indicate significant disparities among farmers and uneven distribution of the financial support. The allocation of aid under Pillar I leads to serious imbalances in Bulgarian agriculture. There is a substantial transformation in production and trade patterns. The new architecture of direct payments and the greater flexibility of the instrument post 2020 can address some of the existing challenges. |
