Description
Summary:Beyond the economic sphere, renewed attention to "making" also pertains to politics. The concept of a "democracy of making" encompasses diverse initiatives where citizens autonomously identify and address problems without waiting for or depending on external actors, thereby working towards societal democratization based on the principle that power belongs to those who act or are engaged in making society. This article examines the mechanisms and territorial dynamics of this performative democratic model through an in-depth examination of an archetypal case study: the municipal governance of Saillans, a village in the Drôme region, during the period 2014-2020, which emerged following the election of a citizen-led list. By interrogating this empirical instance, the research illuminates the pivotal territorial conditions that catalyzed the Saillans experiment and explicates the consequent socio-spatial transformations and reconfiguration of existing socio-political structures
