| Summary: | Intraabdominal abscess due to gastric perforation by a foreign body is rare and may be fatal. In such cases, diagnosis is usually difficult due to non-specific symptoms and failure to remember the ingestion event by the patient as well as low clinical suspicion by the physician. This article demonstrates a rare case of gastro-hepatic recess abscess secondary to a toothpick perforating the lesser curvature of the stomach, diagnosed by a computed tomography scan. Laparoscopy was performed to drain the abscess and extract the foreign body without complications; the patient made a complete uncomplicated recovery. Our case highlighted the clinical challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of such rare cases. |
