Description
Summary:This study of Irish migration flows during the Great Famine is based on a set of data extracted from the 1841 to 1861 censuses. It first identifies internal population flows and aims at measuring their impact in rural and urban environments, questioning the very mechanism of rural-urban migrations operating in mid-19th century Ireland. It then outlines the process of emigration, in an attempt to measure its volumes and provides a brief analysis of the practicalities of the journeys.
