| Summary: | This article focuses on highly interactive narrative, an emerging genre which has concentrated advanced research in computing since the early nineties. The goal of these researches — if not their “Grail” — is to produce narratives in which the audience determines by their actions the course of events in the story. Much has been written regarding the potentialities of such a vision, in terms of how the status of the plot is transformed and how the audience, the story, the machine and the author interrelate. But what happens at the concrete level of produced works? From a few examples of such narratives, including Nothing For Dinner that has been developed in our laboratory, we propose a typology of plots in highly interactive narratives. In addition, we defend the thesis that the plot in highly interactive narrative is fundamentally different from the classical plot, and we suggest some directions to characterize this particular plot. |
