| description | Since the consolidation in the mid-twentieth century of the concepts of “generación del 98”, “generación del 27”, “generación del 36”, and “generación del 50”, Spanish literary historiography has been dependent on the application of the generational theory. Research has demonstrated the inconvenience of this methodological practice, which usually results in an overly simplified comprehension of literary history, but this phenomenon has not yet been examined from a gender perspective that delves into its implications for the study of women’s writing, traditionally absent from the generational inventories. In consequence, this article analyzes the essays that José Ortega y Gasset, Julius Petersen, Pedro Laín Entralgo and Julián Marías devoted to the concept of “generation”, as they set the ground for the establishment of this framework. The aim is to examine what place they assign to women, as well as to understand the mechanisms through which female literary works are positioned lagging behind canonical texts. Ultimately, this research intends to contribute to the analysis of canonization processes developed by feminist literary theory in the last decades. |
