Summary:The main objective of this article is to contribute in the search of alternatives for some obstacles in the Education of Adults and Youth (EAY) related to great extent to its lack of identity. In spite of recent laws and norms which regulate this educational modality, the pedagogical practice, the training of teachers and the definition of a "place" confront EAY with the challenge to rethink itself. After summarizing some of the problems already pointed out by previous studies, we propose a dialogue of EAY with Popular Education and Social Pedagogy. Our argument is that it is important for EAY to keep its links with Popular Education in terms of defining the perspective for its pedagogical-political project. Social pedagogy, on its turn, contributes with knowledge and strategies for action relevant ant for the population which attends EAY.
