| description | Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a detrimental, gradual, non-reversible disorder caused by prolonged areca nut consumption. It leads to mucosal stiffness and functional morbidity due to associated symptoms like a burning sensation, ulceration, pain, blanching, trismus, and sunken cheeks. To reduce the deteriorating complications of conventional surgical management like more fibrosis and scarification, a minimally invasive approach with light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (LASER) therapy provides the advantages of a reduced operating time, less bleeding, optimal recovery, less scarring, and relapse. This short communication presents a case report of Grade III OSMF successfully treated with diode LASER fibrotomy and adjunct therapy, including submucosal intralesional injections and oral physiotherapy with Heister’s mouth gag. |
