| Summary: | Cooperative enterprises emphasize their “moral” dimension in the Durkheimian sense, because their primary vocation is to serve the collective interest of their members. Based on a survey of several industrial cooperative enterprises, this article describes the difficulties encountered by trade unionists in these companies, where each member is expected to occupy the position of employee, decision-maker and shareholder simultaneously. The aim is to shed light on the moral dilemmas faced by member-unionists, and to show how these dilemmas lead to a redefinition of union functions. |
