Description
Summary:This study presents a literature survey on traumatic medullary injury among young people, and on the emotional strategies for coping with it; we did a survey on specialized literature published during the period from 2000 to 2011. We used the following keywords: traumatic medullary injury, resiliency and coping. The objective of the survey was to identify publications that put forward theoretical correlations and updates on strategies for coping and situations of impact and rupture in cases of young adults affected by traumatic medullary injury. The electronic survey was carried out in Scielo and Medlinedatabase and was enlarged through a research in specialized written publications of the area. Themes were grouped in 2 categories for analysis: “A new reality: the emotional impact over the young, the family and the team”, and “Strategies for coping and resilience”. We concluded that, in spite of references to emotional aspects in the studies, few publications evaluate the population in what concerns trajectories and strategies for coping.
