description In today’s increasingly serious environmental problems, water treatment technology has become a worldwide research hot spot. At present, as the harmful components of polluted water are becoming more and more complex, the requirements for treatment process are getting higher and higher, so it is difficult for a single technology to purify sewage completely. In this context, interdisciplinary multi-technology has become the development trend in water treatment, and magnetic nanomaterials have the advantages of high efficiency and rapidity compared with the traditional technology, so they have a greater potential for development. This paper will be divided into the research background, the main types of industrial wastewater, the current classification of magnetic nanomaterials, the surface functionalization of composite magnetic nanomaterials, including inorganic materials composite and organic materials composite two kinds of composite materials, the material desorption and recovery, as well as the direction of the future development and some challenges to be faced to introduce the magnetic nanoscale adsorbent materials in wastewater treatment of the current research in several aspects.
