description Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a leading cause of dry eye disease, characterized by abnormal meibum production and glandular obstruction, resulting in compromised tear film stability and ocular discomfort. This review article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of MGD. Diagnostic innovations, including non-invasive imaging techniques, tear film analysis, and interferometry, have enhanced our ability to detect early-stage MGD and assess disease severity more accurately. Newer therapeutic modalities like intense pulsed light therapy, and pharmacological agents targeting inflammation and glandular function, along with standard measures like hot fomentation, eyelid massage have shown promising results in improving symptoms and restoring meibomian gland health. By summarizing the current landscape of MGD diagnostics and therapeutics, this article highlights the ongoing efforts to refine clinical care and enhance patient outcomes in this prevalent ocular condition.
