| Summary: | The article is devoted to the history of orthodoxy of the western rite. Movement to Orthodox Church began in 1930, when catholic priest L. Vinart turned into orthodoxy. This priest was interested in orthodoxy and carried away for a group of clergy. Vinart had many disciples. This group used Latin divine service with some changes. Later the western rite was distributed by two clerics — archimandrite Dionysius (Shambo) and priest Evgraph Kovalevsky. The part of orthodox christians was under guidance of Russian Orthodox Church. Other part was under guidance of Patriarchate of Moscow. However, distribution of the western rite in postwar years was finished. In the article reasons of failure of this missionary project are analyzed. Among this reasons: the absence of aid from Patriarchate of Moscow, the conflicts between the branches of Russian orthodoxy in emigration and great mistakes that was made by archpriest Evgraph Kovalevsky (bishop John). |
