Summary:The small current grounding system is mostly used in distribution network in China. The network structure of distribution network is complex, and difficult to locate fault line. This paper presents a fault location method based on full signal measurement, variational mode decomposition (VMD) and Teager energy operator (TEO). Firstly, according to the topology of distribution network, the traveling wave positioning terminal device is installed. Through full signal measurement, the traveling wave signals of fault current, phase voltage and zero sequence voltage are detected, and the traveling wave fault line selection algorithm is used to judge the range of fault line. At the same time, each traveling wave positioning device carries out traveling wave ranging according to the reflection time difference and traveling wave speed of the two reflected waves. Through test, the results show that this method has ideal positioning accuracy in distribution network fault location.
