Description
Summary:We analyze with a political economy approach and mapping the main indicators of cruise tourism in Mexico in the last 25 years, we highlight that, although the country is considered one of the main international tourism destinations and has an extensive coastline both in the Gulf-Caribbean and in the Pacific, the cruise industry does not deliver the results expected from one of the most important forms of tourism today. The Mexican case provides empirical elements to the general statements found in the literature, which consider cruises as an activity that tends to focus on both supply and demand profile. We urge further research on the particularities of cruise tourism at regional and local scales on issues; labor, economic spillover, local benefits, and environmental impact.
